Book Talk - Eric Buckland

Join Eric Buckland for a book talk on his book "Mosby Men and Mosby's Keydet Rangers". Mosby's Keydet Rangers includes a large amount of previously unpublished material that gives the reader new insights into the young men who matriculated at VMI and rode with Colonel John Singleton Mosby. It is a comprehensive collection of short biographical sketches, personal letters, accounts of raids and incidents, anecdotes, newspaper articles, passages from books, memorials, and obituaries that brings the young Rangers to life and sheds new light on their operations during the war. Mr. Buckland was born July 16, 1954 in Kanas City, KS. He grew up in Connecticut before returning to Kanas to attend the University of Kanas from which he received a B.A. in English in 1977 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army (Infantry). Mr. Buckland had a 22 year career in the Army and retured as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1999. THis is his first book and reflects his great interest in Mosby's Rangers, irregular warfare duing the War between the States and the Virignia Military Institute. Attachments

Civil War Trails Tour

Tour to Highlight Civil War Manassas May 6, 3 p.m. The very Manassas sidewalks and streets where commuters, residents and visitors tread now cover an area once teeming with thousands of soldiers preparing for war. An April 22 Civil War Trails Old Town Walking Tour, sponsored by the Manassas Museum, offers visitors a chance to travel back 150 years and glimpse a community caught in the grip of war. The 2 p.m. tour promises a walking narrative of what the area looked like during the Civil War, and will follow signs on the popular state-wide Civil War Trail. The tour will emphasize earthwork construction in Old Town, how the railroad was used during the war for military purposes, life in area military camps, raids on military stores, and the landscape that remained after forces withdrew. Tickets for the tour are $15 and advance tickets are required. Tickets are nonrefundable, unless the event is cancelled by the museum. May-toberfest! - Manassas Symphony Orchestra

May-toberfest! Saturday, May 12, 2012 7:30 p.m. at the Hylton Performing Arts Center 10960 George Mason Circle Manassas, VA 20109 May-toberfest! on May 12, 2012, brings Oktoberfest to the springtime as we capture the spirit of the festival with fun music from and about Germany, Austria, and Bavaria. JMU tuba professor Kevin Stees joins us as soloist (without leiderhosen) for this concert, playing Martin Ellerby’s vibrant Tuba Concerto. We are also performing great works by Gustav Mahler (Adagietto from Symphony No. 5), Carl Maria von Weber (Invitation to the Dance), Richard Wagner (Rienzi Overture), Edward Elgar (Three Bavarian Dances), and Johann Strauss, Jr. (assorted polkas). The Kings Park German Band is joining us for some pre-concert and intermission fun and there will be German beer sold in the lobby.
