LOVE Sculpture Unveiling
Wednesday, 05/30/2012 3:00 PM
LOVE Sculpture Unveiling - Wednesday, May 30, 3 p.m.
Don’t miss the chance to read a LOVE letter on The Manassas Museum lawn this summer.
The LOVE letter sculpture that will decorate the lawn is a collaboration between the museum and Historic Manassas, Inc., and is thanks to a Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) grant awarded to the museum. It will be unveiled on Wednesday, May 30 at 3 p.m. on the museum lawn.
The LOVE theme is an ongoing marketing tool used by the VTC, which has long branded the state’s tourism marketing campaign with the slogan “Virginia Is for Lovers.” The current marketing campaign promotes the theme “LOVE is at the heart of every Virginia vacation.”
A traveling LOVE sculpture which has appeared at visitor’s centers and tourist attractions across the state has become a magnet for photographs and brought attention to the state’s attractions. VTC sponsored a limited number of $1,200 grants like the one awarded to the museum so that organizations might construct their own LOVE letter attractions.
The six-foot-tall LOVE letters set to appear on the museum lawn are painted blue and gray to reflect the area’s Civil War heritage, and will be mounted on a train flat car, with a rail and train installed on the letter “O” to represent the area’s railway heritage. Mark Olsen, President of HMI’s board and a Manassas Historic Resources Board member, is donating his time and talents to the construction, and museum and city public works crews will finish and install the sculpture. It will remain in place until the end of 2012.
