Dedication of Memorial to Angela Gregory

06/10/2012 2:00 PM

The GFWC Woman’s Club of Manassas will dedicate a bronze statue honoring the memory of the late Angela G. Gregory on Sunday, June 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Manassas Museum, 9101 Prince William Street, Manassas. A reception will immediately follow, and is open to the public. Angela Gregory was a long time resident of Manassas, a beloved friend and dedicated club member who gave of her time generously. While she was President of the Woman’s Club of Manassas, she was instrumental in the formation of the “Pink Ladies” Auxiliary at Prince William Hospital, and established the first mental health clinic in Prince William County. She became President of the Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs; during her term over $50,000 was presented to the Medical College of Virginia’s Radiation Therapy Unit. She also encouraged the formation of the Woodbridge Woman’s Club, which later joined other civic organizations in promoting the building of Potomac Hospital (now Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center). Angela was very active in the Republican Party and was always considered for delegate to state and national conventions. She was recognized by the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade, presented by the City of Manassas, as “Woman of the Year” in 2001. Angela was married to John O. Gregory, a lifetime resident of Manassas, who dedicated the 300-seat Gregory Family Theater at the Hylton Performing Arts Center to his wife Angela and son, J. Scott Gregory. Gregory is chairman of Gregory Construction Inc. and has played an important role in shaping the landscape of Manassas and Prince William County. The venue has already proved to be a flexible performance place for dance, music and spoken word, as well as a gathering place for many festive events. The Junior Women’s Club of Manassas also honors Angela with the Angela Gregory Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a local student with beneficial community service contributions and exceptional leadership endeavors. The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is the oldest and largest volunteer women’s organization in the world with millions of members worldwide in 40 countries. The Northern District of GFWC Virginia, which includes the GFWC Woman’s Club of Manassas, is 88 years old and currently has 30 general clubs and five junior clubs with a combined membership of more than 1,560.
