6th Annual Earth Day Celebration in Old Town Manassas

Manassas, VA (February 25, 2013)

Earth Day will once again be celebrated in Old Town Manassas to not only promote the need for a sustainable environment, but also to encourage people to look around and donate what they don’t need. It’s an Old Town with a “green” attitude when Historic Manassas, Inc. hosts the 6th Annual Spring Cleaning Day on Saturday, April 20th, in and around the Harris Pavilion from 10am until 3pm. The day includes recycling and environmental information from exhibitors such as Project Mend-A-House, the Manassas Beautification Committee, and Manassas City Schools. The City of Manassas Trash and Recycling Department will be coordinating a Shred It truck for people to securely dispose of personal documents for free. Be sure to check the community calendar on the Historic Manassas, Inc. website for updates such as the location of the Shred It truck.

At the Harris Pavilion, several organizations will be ready to accept various items that are usually sent to the landfill such as gently used clothing and household items, eye glasses, and hearing aids.  The Manassas Art Guild will be featuring its spring eARTh exhibit, which consists of  artists working in several mediums and displaying their work relating to themes of recycling, natural materials and the environment. MAG will also be sponsoring artist demonstrations and kid’s activities throughout the day.

New this year, Spring Cleaning Day will offer up a limited amount of space for a Community Yard Sale.  Space provided will be utilized for yard sale items only please.  Information on participating as a yard sale vendor can be found at www.visitmanassas.org.  Space is limited, so apply now.

Other attractions throughout the day include live entertainment and kids inflatable attractions. Visitors can also take advantage of the sidewalk sale with Old Town merchants “spring-cleaning” their stores, or visit the Farmer’s Market!

Spring Cleaning Day details will be updated regularly on the event page of the community calendar at www.visitmanassas.org. Civic and non-profit organizations, and sponsors interested in marketing their “green” initiatives at Spring Cleaning Day should contact Sarah McHugh at smchugh@historicmanassasinc.org or 703-361-6599.
