In the movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, a young boy finds a golden ticket that wins him a chance to tour the fantastic candy factory. Historic Manassas, Inc. has come up with the idea of the Merry Old Town Chocolate Bar. On Tues., Nov. 6, the Merry Old Town Chocolate Bar will go on sale at participating merchants in Old Town Manassas, including Echoes- The Manassas Museum, Dublin of Old Town, The Things I Love, Whimsical Galerie, Grounds Central Station (formerly known as Simply Sweet on Main), Opera House Gourmet, Persnickety Cakes, and the Manassas Visitor’s Center. One of these milk chocolate bars contains the prized Golden Ticket. The lucky child (or adult) that finds the Golden Ticket will win the opportunity to be Santa’s guest on his float in the 67th Annual Greater Manassas Christmas Parade.  A parent or guardian will be able accompany the winner, if necessary.  For more information, go to www.visitmanassas.org.

 
The official Merry Old Town season kicks off on Fri., Nov. 30, when Santa arrives in Old Town Manassas at the historic train depot via the Virginia Railway Express at 6 p.m.  Attendees can listen to the holiday music by local choral groups and others on the steps of the Manassas Museum. Santa and Mayor Parrish of Manassas will light the Old Town Christmas tree.  The event will also feature free hayrides around Old Town Manassas, and visits with Santa at the Harris Pavilion gazebo.   The Manassas Museum will also be conducting their Annual Holiday Open House from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. offering free admission, holiday entertainment and refreshments.
 
In addition, Old Town Manassas merchants will be hosting their Annual Merchants Open House on Sun., Dec. 2 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. complete with refreshments and a special appearance by Santa. The Annual Gingerbread House submissions will also be on display in the shop windows beginning Nov. 27th. Individuals can vote for their favorite entry in the store or on-line at www.visitmanassas.org. Free horse-drawn carriage rides will be available from 1:30p.m. to 4  p.m. on Sun., Dec.2, Sun., Dec. 9, and Sun., Dec.16.
